एक्लै, हामी एउटा थोपा मात्रै हौं, सबै मिले हामी समुन्द्र बन्न सक्छौँ ।

नेपालमा कोरोना भाइरस (कोभिड–१९) संक्रमितको संख्या ३१ पुगिसकेको छ । सुरुमा १६ जनामा मात्रै देखिएको कोरोना संक्रमितको संख्या ३६ घण्टामै बढेर ३१ पुग्यो । उदयपुरमा मुस्लिम धर्मावलम्वीहरुको मस्जिदमा लुकेर बसेका १२ जनामा थप संक्रमण बढेपछि संख्या ह्वात्तै बढेको हो ।

नयाँ दिल्लीमा तब्लीगी जमाती मण्डलीबाट संक्रमण फैलिएको बताइएको छ । जसले साम्प्रदायिक मतभेद उत्पन्न गरिदिएको छ । तब्लीगी जमातीले भारतमा आयोजना गरेको उक्त धार्मिक सम्मेलन भारतमा मात्र होइन नेपालमा पनि कोरोना भाइरस फैलाउन मुख्य जिम्मेवार भयो ।

जति पनि रौतहट र उदयपुरमा संक्रमित भेटिएका छन् ती सबै दिल्लीमा भएको धार्मिक सम्मेलनमा सहभागी भएका थिए। ती नै व्यक्तिहरुले आसपासका जिल्लाहरुमा रहेका मस्जिदबाट गैर–मुस्लिम अर्थात हिन्दुहरुमा संक्रमण फैलाएको आशंका व्यक्त भइरहेको छ ।

त्यसैले, पूरै मुस्लिम समुदायमाथि कोभिड –१९ फैलाउन अभियान चलाएको आरोप लगाउन थालिएको छ । नेपाली समाजमा मुस्लिम समुदायविरुद्ध मौखिक र मनोवैज्ञानिक युद्ध सुरु भएको छ ।

केही दिन अगाडि मात्रै जनकपुरको महाबीर चोकमा दुई जना मुस्लिम महिलाहरुले कोरोना भाइरसयुक्त १० रुपैयाँको नोट फालेर फरार भएको भन्ने समाचार आयो । समाचार आएलगत्तै पुनः महिलाहरुको खोजी गरी प्रहरीले पक्राउ गरेको र तिनीहरुमा कोरोना परीक्षण गर्दा पोजेटिभ रिपोर्ट आएको समाचार एकै छिनमा भाइरल भयो । देशका ठूला राष्ट्रिय सञ्चार माध्यमहरुले पनि समाचारलाई प्राथमिकता दिएर छापे तर केही समय पछाडि नै ती महिलाहरुमा कोरोना भाइरसको संक्रमण नभएको प्रहरीले पुष्टि गर्यो । अहिले सबैतिर सबै मुस्लिममाथि कोरोना भाइरस फैलाउने भन्ने दृष्टिले हेरिएको छ । जसले निकै डरलाग्दो परिस्थितीको सिर्जना गरेको छ । जसले मुस्लिमहरुको प्रदर्शनलाई बढवा दिने र कोरोना भाइरस फैलाउने सम्पूर्ण जिम्मेवार मुस्लिममाथि आइपरेको छ ।

विश्वभरी नै महामारीको रुप लिएको कोेभिड–१९ जस्तो महामारीको समयमा धार्मिक अल्पसंख्यकका कारण केही हुनेवाला छैन । तर दुर्भाग्य, मानिसहरु अलग अलग ठाउँमा एकअर्काको धर्मलाई दोषी ठहर्याउन लागि परेका छन् । जसका कारण धार्मिक द्वन्द्वको खेल सुरु भइसकेको छ । महामारीको समयमा राष्ट्रिय एकताको बाटो हिँड्नुपर्नेमा मुस्लिम समुदायमाथि लगातारको आक्रमणले गलत बाटो लगिरहेको छ ।

यतिबेला नेपाल लकडाउनको पाँचौँ सातामा गुज्रिरहेको छ । लकडाउनका कारण दैनिक ज्याला मजदुरीमा जीवन धानिरहेका मजदुरहरुको जीवन निकै कष्टकर बन्दै गइरहेको छ । यस्तै, विपन्न र गरिब वर्गका साथै सबै नेपालीको अवस्था दिन प्रतिदिन कष्टकर बन्दै गइरहेको बेला ‘इस्लामोफोबिया’ (मुस्लिम विरोधी भावना) ले पूरै नेपालीहरुमा अझ धेरै संकट पैदा नगर्ला भन्न सकिन्न ।

यो समयमा भाइरसमाथि विजय पाउन धार्मिक विभाजनको उल्झनमा पर्नुहुँदैन । महान व्यक्ति अलेक्सजेन्डरले भनेका छन्, ‘प्रत्येकको आचरण भाग्यमा निर्भर गर्छ ।’ त्यसैले मानवतामा विश्वास गर्नुपर्छ ।

कोरोना भाइरसको आतंकका बीच जसरी धार्मिक द्वन्द्व बढीरहेको छ । यो भाइरसको अन्तसँगै अन्त्य हुन सक्दैन र यो लडाईंले लामो समय लिन सक्ने देखिन्छ ।

Religious Tension Growing with the Increase in Covid-19 Positive Cases

Nepal’s Covid-19 cases have hit 31, from the earlier count of 16 in less than 36 hours. 16 out of
31 infected cases are from Muslim community. The discovery that the infected cases are linked
somehow to Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi has rose communal tensions. That
Tablighi Jamaat event has become the biggest hotspot for the spread of coronavirus not only in
India, but also in Nepal now.
The disclosure of various infected persons, who were participants of that Muslim evangelical
event in mosques of Rautahat and Udayapur and their contacts traced to many mosques in the
surrounding districts have sparked outrage among the country’s Hindu majority.
The whole Muslim community is being accused of conducting a campaign to spread Covid-19 to
the Hindu majority. Verbal and psychological warfare is being waged against Muslims, vilifying
and ostracizing the Muslim community in Nepalese society.
The news from Mahabir chowk of Janakpur that two Muslim women are intending to infect
everyone by carrying the notes of ten rupees with the contagion virus of Covid-19 and throwing
it everywhere to spread the virus is shifting a blame to every Muslim now. It feels very scary and
will add to the demonization of Muslims. It is as if the entire responsibility of this will be put on
every Muslim.
Covid-19 is a pandemic that the whole world is being subjected to. It’s not something from
religious minorities. But unfortunately we are seeing that sort of blame game getting started up in
different places. Rather than seeing the pandemic as a moment to be used to seek national unity,
there is a continuity of showing Muslims as more culpable and more to blame.
As Nepal heads to its fifth week of lockdown that is causing particular hardship to the poor, anti-
Muslim sentiments leading to Islamophobia can cause more crisis in the life of ordinary
Nepalese people as a whole.
It is the utmost need to prevent fears over the virus from becoming entangled with religious
divisions and realize the saying of Alexander the Great, “Remember upon the conduct of each
depends the fate of all” and have faith on humanity.
The big fight with the growing religious stress after the end of the era of coronavirus is going to
be around that will take much longer time to defeat.
